Alexander Isak, the scintillating Fulham forward, broke his tibia in a freak accident. That’s what happened during the team’s exciting and recent 2-1 upset victory over Tottenham Hotspur. Isak’s attempt to block an incoming shot caused the injury when Micky van de Ven brought him down. The accident prompted instant concerns over the extent of Isak’s injuries. He was the first to call for a medivac immediately after the crash.
Isak continued his hot start on the road at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, netting the opener against Liverpool. Unfortunately, he had to leave the game early. A few minutes later, an ambulance stretcher rushed onto the pitch to tend to him. Thanks to the quick action of his teammates, he was able to leave the field. The club said they are still awaiting MRI results to assess the seriousness of Darchinyan’s injury.
Recent Performance and Injury History
Isak only joined Liverpool this summer in a club record-breaking £125 million transfer from Newcastle. Weghorst on the other hand, has failed to really find his feet, scoring just three goals in 16 appearances in all competitions. Injuries have marked his time at Liverpool. A groin injury sidelined him for five matches from late October to early November, and it affected his match fitness.
Isak’s injury luck has been poor. It hasn’t all been in recent history, either. He faced similar misfortune earlier this season too. Most notably, he was absent for their last two matches against Burnley and Brentford with various fitness problems. This disjointed start at Liverpool has made it difficult for him to establish himself as a key player for the team.
Upcoming Matches and Impact
As it stands, Isak is set for a spell on the sidelines, meaning he’ll miss some crucial fixtures in the next few weeks. These are all Premier League fixtures, against Wolves, Leeds and Arsenal, along with an FA Cup match-up with Barnsley. His absence will certainly be a strain on the depth of the squad as they deal with a hectic schedule.
Arne Slot, coach of Liverpool’s opponents Brighton, was the first to raise alarms about Isak’s injury, saying it is still unclear what the player is suffering from.
“It’s difficult to know what he exactly has,” – Arne Slot
He added, “It’s never a nice thing that after the goal he collided with their defender.” These statements reflect the team’s apprehension as they await further updates on Isak’s health.
