Los Angeles Rams left tackle Alaric Jackson is preparing to take the field on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, despite facing serious legal allegations. On Thursday, the ACLU of Louisiana and Covington filed a lawsuit against Jackson. The suit claims that, during one sexual encounter, he recorded a woman without her consent and then deleted the video. The suit alleges that he bragged to the woman about filming her, causing considerable backlash from the public over his conduct.
This is an important measure as it would allow the NFL to penalize Jackson for breach of conduct. As it turns out, that contributed to him landing a two-game suspension earlier this year. Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed that Jackson will participate in the upcoming game, stating, “There won’t be any actions as it relates to Alaric as far as his status for the game this week.”
In answering reporters on Friday, Jackson came to the lawsuit but stopped short of diving into details. “I can’t really say anything about it right now,” he remarked, emphasizing that it remains a “court case.” He hasn’t discussed the unfolding situation with his teammates. He’s sure that the lawsuit won’t be a derailment for the team in their preparations from here on out.
Jackson’s contract with the Rams speaks volumes about how important he is to his team. In February, he signed a three-year extension worth $57 million. This significant financial investment is a testament to the team’s expectations of him as a cornerstone player both on and off the floor.
In his post-game comments, Coach McVay showed that he still supports Jackson, and directed attention back to what’s important—football. “That’s not something that we’re talking about right now,” he said regarding the allegations. The Rams look forward to their upcoming showdown with the first-place Seahawks. Jackson’s impact will be key to the roster’s success as they seek to earn a win.
