Alaric Jackson, the left tackle for the Los Angeles Rams and an All Michigander, getting set for his return. He’ll rejoin practice next week, having cleared health hurdles caused by blood clots in his lower leg. Head coach Sean McVay reassured that Jackson is in “great physical and mental shape.” This encouraging report bodes well for his long-term prognosis and ability to participate in future OTAs.
Jackson’s health has been of great concern since June when he first expressed feelings of discomfort in his lower leg. Eventually, scans revealed extensive blood clots throughout his body. As a consequence, he was suspended for the first two games of the 2024 season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Jackson has been through these challenges in the past. He missed the last nine games of the 2022 season with a similar ailment.
Even with these hangups, Jackson has been hard to miss throughout training camp. He was in individual drills and jog-throughs but had not taken part in team drills until today. McVay has been vocal about a desire for a “healthy, safe recovery” for Jackson, driving home the team’s idea of a cautious approach with Jackson’s return.
This all-in, full-bore nature is balanced out by the Rams’ commitment to a visible practice schedule. They practice Monday, Wednesday, Thursday with a fun jog-through on Friday. Jackson will be on hand for the entire week’s activities, so stay tuned for more!
“If you just look at what the last week has entailed, feel really good,” – Sean McVay
On Thursday, McVay said he was confident Jackson was ready. He said, “There’s nothing on my end that would give me any doubt that he’ll be ready to roll against the Texans, unless we have a freak thing happen. He commended Jackson’s commitment and effort during this transitional fiscal period.
“He has put so much work in,” – Sean McVay
Jackson also started 14 games for the Rams last season, and was a key contributor to their strong offensive line. His absence over the first three weeks of this season has sent alarm bells ringing about where the team currently stands. That’s why his anticipated return ushered in an avalanche of optimism. Fans are confident he’ll be a huge addition to the offensive unit as they prepare for their first ever playoff game.
“I think he’s handled it like a total stud,” – Sean McVay
