Al Nassr, one of Saudi Arabia's wealthiest football clubs, has made headlines with a new transfer offer exceeding £71 million for a top player. This move comes as the January transfer window remains open, closing at 8:59 PM UK and Irish time on Friday. The club aims to bolster its squad in a bid to secure the Saudi Pro League title for Cristiano Ronaldo, who turns 40 next month.
Despite being one of the four clubs owned by the sovereign wealth fund, Al Nassr has yet to dominate the league. Currently sitting third, they are just five points behind the leaders after a recent 2-1 victory over Al Raed. Their pursuit of top talents like Jhon Duran, for whom they agreed on a £64 million deal with Aston Villa, highlights their ambition.

Al Nassr's interest in Brighton's winger Kaoru Mitoma has also been significant, with an initial £54 million offer rejected. Mitoma, who made his Brighton debut in August 2022, has been a key player, featuring in all 23 Premier League games this season and tallying 92 appearances across competitions.
"Even though they've got Ronaldo, they have not really been challenging for the title. Al Hilal are the best team in Saudi Arabia at the moment so I wonder whether Ronaldo has been putting a bit of pressure on the people upstairs at Al Nassr and saying, 'I want to win more titles and trophies', as he turns 40 next week." – Kaveh Solhekol
The club’s aggressive approach in the transfer market reflects its strategic intent to support Ronaldo's quest for his first Saudi Pro League title. As the iconic Portuguese forward approaches a milestone birthday, his influence on Al Nassr’s ambitions cannot be understated.
"This is maybe why they're going for top players like Jhon Duran and Mitoma." – Kaveh Solhekol
