Famed 41-year-old quarterback, recent Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, this to the Jets just recently. He was honest about plans for his future when he appeared on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday. The move came after last month, the New York Jets cut Rodgers. He spoke candidly about his departure, discussed the continuing conversations he’s had with other teams, and opened up about some personal issues he’s been going through since January.
At the start of the interview, Rodgers said he was surprised when he was released, but acknowledged that he was settling down to an expectation of it. He described his reaction to the Jets’ decision, stating, “I was kind of shocked. Now I’m not shocked because I didn’t think that was a possibility.” He conveyed frustration over the manner of communication from the Jets, emphasizing, “You could have told me this on the phone if we weren’t even going to have a conversation.”
Rodgers has been meeting with other teams, such as the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers. He visited the Steelers’ practice facility in March and had a significant meeting with the team’s general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn. He left that meeting feeling disrespected. He recounted the conversation, saying, “I said, ‘Are you assuming that I would be in the back of the room during a team meeting, undermining what you’re saying?’”
Even with these back-and-forths, Rodgers claimed that he was “upfront” with teams about what he was looking for. He disputed claims that he begged for his job or asked for a rich multiyear deal. Instead, he stated, “I told every single one of the teams I talked to, it ain’t about the money.” He further stressed, “I’ll play for $10 million. I don’t give a sh*t. And by the way, I never claimed I needed a multiyear agreement for $30 or $40 million. That’s complete baloney!
