Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon incurred a Grade 2 right hamstring strain. He’s likely to miss four to six weeks. The injury was indeed a serious one, as Gordon found out following an MRI on Saturday that shed light on just how bad it was. This setback comes after he entered Friday’s game managing bilateral hamstring issues and ultimately suffered the injury during the Nuggets’ road win against the Houston Rockets.
Gordon’s injury certainly seems like the biggest body blow to the Nuggets. This is the second time this season that one of their starters has been forced to miss games. Christian Braun Besides MPJ, Braun is the most significant player to suffer a sprained ankle. He would go on to miss at least six weeks, having injured himself on November 12. With both players on the sidelines, the Nuggets will have to make some significant changes to their lineup and strategies moving forward.
Before this injury, Gordon was experiencing a career year. He exploded for a career-high 50 points on opening night against the defending champion Golden State Warriors. In doing so, he became the sixth player in NBA history to accomplish that performance in a season opener. Gordon is putting together a dream of a season! His notable performances have brought him to career high averages, most notably 18.8 points per game and an impressive 44.4% shooting from three-point range.
As it is he’s one of just seven players in the league this season to do so. He’s averaging at least 15 points in 50-40-85 splits, producing evidence of both his inevitability as a star and his readiness to contribute now. The best chance for the Nuggets to grow without breaking the bank in free agency was through Harris, the best player around whom they had room to build.
Gordon’s current predicament is by no means ideal for him or the team. In four to six weeks, they’ll reevaluate his progress and determine if he’s able to come back. The Nuggets organization is cautiously optimistic of a speedy return. They’re more than just survivors making do with the unfortunate havoc wreaked by injuries on their roster.
