A Lim Kim Leads After First Round in Singapore With Impressive 68

A Lim Kim of South Korea surged to the top of the leaderboard at the LPGA's HSBC Women's World Championship on Thursday. She delivered an impressive round, shooting a 4-under 68 at the Tanjong course, Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore. This performance placed her one stroke ahead of the competition in the opening round, despite challenging windy conditions.

Kim's round included five birdies, showcasing her skill and precision on the course. However, she encountered a setback with a bogey on the par-5 16th hole. Close on her heels, England's Charley Hull secured second place, finishing with a 69. Meanwhile, four players, including China's Ruoning Yin and Australia's Minjee Lee, tied for third place, each carding a 70.

The tournament attracted a formidable field, featuring nine of the top ten players in the women's world rankings, and thirteen of the top fifteen. Notably absent were the top-ranked Nelly Korda and rising star Rose Zhang. Last year's champion, Hannah Green, finished the day with a 75, while Angel Yin, who clinched victory at the LPGA Thailand event last week, recorded a 76.

Jin Young Ko, aiming to make history as the first three-time winner of the Singapore event, faced challenges and opened with a 73. Brooke Henderson posted a score of 74. Lydia Ko ended her round with a 71, placing her in a group tied for seventh.

This event marks the conclusion of the LPGA's three-tournament early Asian Swing for this year. The action-packed swing will draw to a close next week with the final tournament set to take place on Hainan Island, China.
