A Legacy of Courage: Remembering Caden Tellier, a Young Quarterback’s Journey

Caden Tellier was an up-and-coming 15-year-old quarterback at Morgan Academy in Selma, Alabama. Sadly, after being injured on the field, he died at 16 from that injury. Caden’s story has touched the lives of millions. His passion for the game was evident, and his incredible decision to donate his organs speaks to his care for others in need.

On September 13, the Mustangs took on Monroe Academy in what was expected to be a thrilling showdown. It was a remarkable appearance—just a few months earlier, he’d turned into the rotation’s ace. His dad, Jamie Tellier, supported this transition all the way, volunteering to come on board as a coach. One important thing about Jamie’s unlimited “backyard practice” time with Caden. More than anything, he gave his son an outrageous passion for the game of football.

On August 23, just before the start of the season, everything came crashing down when a devastating injury altered Caden’s life forever. With the tragic event occurring in front of witnesses, panic and desperation ensued from teammates and coaches. Immediately after the incident occurred, medical personnel rushed the young student athlete to Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham. There, he fought like hell for his life.

Caden’s tragic death became national news this past weekend. To return the favor, his family has been showered with unwavering love and kindness from friends, former teammates, and an entire community. A worship service commemorating his life occurred just three days after his shooting. It unzipped the time-space continuum and brought together all those who loved him.

Caden’s parents shared their hope that he is reunited with his grandfather up in heaven. They take solace in the fact that Caden’s organ donation will continue his legacy. His decision will go on to reach and greatly change the lives of many others.
