Marvin Harrison Jr., the gifted wide-out for the Arizona Cardinals, has had a rough break. The veterans’ injuries have cut his promising second NFL season short. This season, Harrison appeared in 12 games. Unfortunately, his finale was cut short due to a left foot injury he sustained in last week’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Throughout the season, Harrison faced multiple setbacks. He missed two games after undergoing surgery for appendicitis and another two due to a right heel injury he suffered in Week 13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Even with his team battling through these issues, Harrison was able to put up jaw-dropping numbers, boasting 41 receptions, 608 yards and four touchdowns.
At a critical point in the game, he got injured on an unusual play. Unfortunately, this meant that he missed the season finale against the Los Angeles Rams. Head coach Jonathan Gannon was complimentary of Harrison’s overall contributions this season. He emphasized Harrison’s remarkable skill at making contested catches, which he was able to do because of his new girth.
“I thought that he made some contested catches because of some size,” – Jonathan Gannon
After his rookie year ended, Harrison focused on getting more physical this offseason. He even gained 11 pounds of muscle to improve his on-field performance. In his own words, Gannon made it clear that he’s more interested in winning the next game than developing players for the future.
“I’m not in the mental space right now thinking about development of players as we move forward. I’m trying to stay focused on today in the Rams,” – Gannon
As the Cardinals prepare for their final match of the season against the Rams, they will have to strategize without one of their key offensive players. Despite his injuries, Harrison’s potential remains a focal point for the team’s future.
