Andy Reid Confirms Plans to Return as Chiefs Coach Next Season

Of course, Reid is the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, and was one of the first to announce his intentions to return for at least another season. The 67-year-old coach was positively bursting with confidence for his future behind the bench. So he said, “I mean, I think I’m coming back, right? Broadly speaking, Reid has been the most important factor behind the Chiefs’ transformation. In less than 13 seasons, he’s transformed them into one of the NFL’s great franchises.

Reid has had a brilliant run as head coach of the Chiefs. He has guided the franchise to three Super Bowl victories and five AFC championship game appearances. From his helm, the team has won three Lombardi Trophies, cementing their supremacy of the last few years. Even this season, Reid has shown why he’s one of the greatest coaches in the NFL, helping Reid achieve a remarkable overall record of 307 wins.

In April 2024, Reid signed a $100 million contract extension. This five-year pact is a powerful signal of his commitment to the Chiefs. This contract will ensure him remain within the organization through at least the end of the 2028 season. Reid seemed to understand that coaching in the NFL is a fickle game. He unequivocally is planning to return. He added, “I’ll return if they’ll have me.” He continued, “You never know in this business. It’s a hard one, but I’m intending to, yeah.”

Throughout his career, Reid has established himself as one of the most successful on-field coaches in NFL history. He spent his first 14 seasons as an NBA head coach in Philadelphia. There, his versatility helped him to lead the Eagles to 130 regular-season victories and 10 playoff wins. His ability to win at an even greater clip in Kansas City only cements his legacy.

Reid is only 18 victories shy of beating George Halas. He is making a push for third place on the NFL’s all-time career wins list. As he prepares for yet another season, he will. His competitive streak is certainly no less blunted as he tries to replicate his success with the Chiefs.
