Jaguars Cornerback Jourdan Lewis Out for Season Due to Foot Injury

Jourdan Lewis, the cornerback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, broke his foot in the team’s impressive 34-20 win against the Denver Broncos this past Sunday. Unfortunately, he’ll be sidelined for the rest of the NFL season as a result. Tonight’s injury will need surgery, making it a serious blow for the fantasy star. After all, this was a guy who’d started off the season on a promising trajectory.

Lewis, 29, signed a three-year, $30 million deal, with $20 million guaranteed with the Jaguars back in March. He’s developed into one of arguably the most important players to the team’s defense. He appeared in 12 games this season, starting in seven of those. At the conclusion of his career, he had tallied two interceptions, one fumble recovery and 39 tackles. His contributions, especially on offense, became an integral component to many of the Jaguars’ upsets. The team will certainly miss his presence on the field.

It’s hardly the first time Lewis has battled through tough breaks this season. Before that, he sat out four games with a neck injury, showing his toughness and character in coming back to lead the team back to health and success. With this new foot injury sidelining him for the rest of the year, the Jaguars must now adjust their defensive strategy.

Montaric Brown is poised to take over as a starter opposite Greg Newsome II. This is Brown’s moment to prove he can do it with a huge season on the line. Whether the Jaguars are on the verge of getting buried in the NFL’s quicksand remains to be seen.

Make no mistake, Head Coach Liam Coen has fostered a strong team-first culture this season. He’s fostered this “us against the world” mindset amongst the players. Coen’s leadership has energized the Jaguars, inspiring them to come together and persevere through adversity. That’s the mindset that the team needs to adopt. It might just be enough to see them through the loss of one of their most key defensive stalwarts.

As the Jaguars go through the rest of the season without Lewis, they are still focused on reaching their desired outcomes. The coaching staff and players are focused on maintaining their performance levels while adapting to changes within the roster.
