Brock Bowers, the superstar rookie tight end for the Las Vegas Raiders, was just put on IR. This decision all but concludes his season. The decision comes after an extensive six-week war with a right knee issue. This injury turned out to be a torn posterior cruciate ligament and a significant bone bruise sustained in the Raiders’ season-opening victory against the New England Patriots.
Bowers started out by missing three games to let the injury heal before returning to play with the injury. He snagged a sweet one-handed, 7-yard leaping touchdown from quarterback Geno Smith. This play just adds to what’s already been a phenomenal year for Wilson. Even with his production, four touchdowns in the final four games, Bowers could never seem to shake his full health woes.
Bowers’ team-highs this season included 63 receptions for 942 yards and 7 touchdowns. He was just recently appointed to his second straight Pro Bowl, emphasizing how impactful he’s been on the field. Yet, he had to gain at least 107 additional receiving yards in order to break the impressive legendary Mike Ditka’s career score of 5,812 yards.
Bowers is indeed officially done for the year. The Raiders will not only be forced to absorb a big loss in production from a talent perspective, but this may cost them a higher pick in the 2024 draft. The absence of key players like Bowers could affect their standing and chances of securing the No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2026 draft.
