Lewis-Potter Shines as Brentford Defeats Wolves and Extends Their Losing Streak

It was a remarkable performance from Keane Lewis-Potter, as he stepped into the limelight for Brentford. He netted both goals in the second half, securing an upset win over Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0. The game at Molineux Stadium was a devastating loss for Wolves. In doing so, they made it a tenth straight Premier League defeat. Wolves suffered yet another heavy loss, leaving them with only two points from 17 games this campaign. They’ve recently become the worst team in history at this point.

Wolves’ new head coach Rob Edwards could hardly have asked for a worse start to his reign. He is yet to win in charge, having lost all six matches since taking the reins. Yet under his leadership, the team has never been able to catch a break, and fans have been left discouraged and enraged. Players such as Wolves captain Matt Doherty were subject to extreme criticism from fans alike. They sang “You’re not worthy to wear the shirt” during and after the game.

Brentford’s Rise in the Standings

In the end, Brentford were celebrating a huge win that compounded Wolves’ woes. Following this victory, the Bees flew up to 12th place in the Premier League table. Lewis-Potter’s brilliant performance secured him the Player of the Match accolade, illuminating his potential and drive on the pitch.

The second goal was from a poor defensive mistake from Wolves that Edwards mentioned in his post-match reaction.

“The goal came from a position where we should never, ever concede from. We’ve gifted that, we’ve almost self-imploded in that moment, some really poor defending,” – Matt Doherty

Brentford took full advantage of this opening. Lewis-Potter’s fortunate second goal put the tie beyond doubt, securing their place in the Championship next season and lifting spirits within the squad.

Wolves’ Ongoing Struggles

Keep a close eye on Minnesota, as the Wolves yet to win this season. Their ability to not earn points has raised alarm bells with both the supporters as well as the front office. Rob Edwards expressed his frustration during a post-match press conference, emphasizing the need for the team to regain confidence and commitment.

“We need to find the confidence. We need to do some soul-searching, have a look in the mirror and figure out what we want to be remembered for at the club,” – Rob Edwards

He continued by saying that there is increasing pressure on the players and too much fear of failure on the pitch. This atmosphere has made it impossible for them to do their jobs well on the field.

“This is the worst I’ve felt in a long time now… We’re just lacking that belief that we can actually win the game,” – Rob Edwards

The team’s struggles were further highlighted when Jorgen Strand Larsen missed a crucial penalty that could have changed the game’s dynamics. Instead, they were taken advantage of by Brentford’s clinical counterattacks as well as not making the most of their own opportunities.

A Glimmer of Hope

Though the anger was wholly justified at the disastrous display Wolves put forth, there were things to be encouraged by. Teenage player Mateus Mane, a left back who captained the side, inspired his boisterous following, despite his side’s loss. They cheered his name fervently once he came on with a purposeful late-game introduction.

Edwards hailed the impact and potential of Mane, who is capable of uplifting straw and helping turn the gloom into hope in his new environment.

“He gave a really good example of what type of player he is, the timing of his movement and the types of finishes that he’s capable of,” – Rob Edwards

For Wolves, the task ahead is a monster with overwhelming opposition lined up ahead of them. This week, they have to regroup and translate their dynamic advocacy into on-field success.
