And what a week of practice it’s been for cornerback Stefon Diggs of the Dallas Cowboys. He has been in the process of getting back on the field after sustaining a concussion and rehabbing a right knee injury. Diggs has been doing all he can to return and is working hard at rehab and practice, so his situation is one that the team will be watching closely.
After being moved to injured reserve on October 25 because of all the damage he incurred, Diggs has shown grit and heart. His dedication to preventive measures and the rehab of his right knee has certainly not slipped under the radar. While these injuries have sidelined him at times, the Cowboys have still given him credit for 20 tackles in six games played, highlighting his defensive versatility. On top of that, he’s credited with a tackle for loss over this stretch.
Those same statistics show plenty of cause for concern for Diggs. Part of the reason for his drop-off in production is that he has no pass deflections or interceptions in his six games this year. The Cowboys are hoping for greater overall consistency from this area of his game.
Cowboys’ offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer provided insight into Diggs’ current state.
“He’s smiling, running around, but he’s, to his credit, he’s having a really good week.” – Brian Schottenheimer
Diggs’ infectious spirit permeated as he joked with teammates while running around at practice. Schottenheimer said the love of the game is coming back to him, and that can only help his game.
“I’ll say this, when you look at Trevon this week what I’ve loved the most about him is he’s having fun playing football,” – Brian Schottenheimer
And through it all, with ups and downs, Diggs is most concerned about getting better and helping his team win. The Cowboys’ coaching staff is very encouraged about his return. Yet they are just as anxious to see if he can fully regain his dynamic form on the field.
