Micah Parsons, the Green Bay Packers’ rookie linebacker star, tore the left knee’s ACL. An MRI on Monday revealed the severity of the injury, putting an end to his season. The injury occurred during the third quarter of the Packers’ 34-26 loss against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, when Parsons’ knee buckled without contact while he was pursuing Broncos quarterback Bo Nix.
>This painful injury The loss of Bakhtiari is an enormous blow to the Packers. After being drafted by the Cowboys in 2021, Parsons made an immediate, pro-bowl impact on Dallas’ defense. This went some way toward explaining why, before this injury, he had missed just one regular-season game. Early this season, he missed four games due to an ankle sprain. If the latter, he’ll finish his first campaign as a Packer with an excellent 12.5 sack total. This accomplishment made him the first player in NFL history to have 12 or more sacks in each of his first five seasons.
After his injury was confirmed Parsons went to social media to react and address fans and teammates. He called this hellish experience his “greatest test” and promised an unbreakable resolve to “bounce back.” He expressed appreciation to the Packers organization for their support during this difficult time.
“I shot him a message before the game telling him to keep his head up,” – Dak Prescott
The injury creates serious problems for the Packers’ defense going forward. Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley has a big test on his hands. He needs to come up with different ways to create pressure on opposing quarterbacks with Parsons no longer on the field. The team does not shy away from the sense of urgency to make a change quickly — particularly with only three more games left in the season.
Gary, a fellow player, reflected on the moment, shedding light on the strength that had developed within the squad.
“For the rest of the season, what we got, three more opportunities?” – Gary
He continued that being steady is most important for their ultimate team goals. With Parsons unavailable, others must step up to help win the day. They will now have the opportunity to wake up and step into the breach his absence poses.
Trevon Diggs, another childhood friend and now Parsons’ teammate with the Cowboys, tweeted his worry at the bad news when he heard of the injury.
“I was devastated. As soon as I seen that happened, I texted him, made sure he was good. That’s my Day 1. That’s my brother and I’ve been through it so I know how he’s feeling right now. I just want him to keep him on y’all’s prayers, make sure he’s prayed up and I’m going to make sure I’m there for him every step of the way, make sure he is good.” – Trevon Diggs
Today Parsons has taken the first steps on his recovery journey. He is hoping to return by early October of next year. That could possibly mean he misses at least four games of the 2023 season while recovering from this injury.
