Texans Minority Owner Javier Loya Suspended Following Legal Troubles

Javier Loya, the minority owner of the Houston Texans, recently received suspension and a fine from the NFL. This decision is especially welcomed after his recent legal challenges. Loya was a co-founder of OTC Global Holdings and purchased his interest in the Texans in 2002. In March 2024, he plead Alford. This legal maneuver allows him to maintain his innocence while acknowledging that the available evidence could lead a jury to find him guilty.

In 2023, Loya’s legal woes took a serious turn for the worse. His charges were serious – one count of first-degree rape, five counts of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of third-degree sexual abuse – in Kentucky. Last year, they dismissed seven sexual assault counts against Loya. Instead, Loya pleaded guilty to a reduced misdemeanor charge of harassment with intent to annoy.

Since the charges began, Loya has decided to take a leave of absence. He hasn’t played with any team or league competition in over two and a half years. The NFL’s own investigation found that Loya’s actions fell short of the league’s personal conduct policy. Prior to the Texans organization releasing their statement, the NFL made a statement. They spoke in support of the NFL’s decision to suspend him.

“The Texans cooperated with the NFL’s investigation and fully support the suspension of Javier Loya, one of our outside limited partners. This behavior has no place in our organization or our community. Since charges were first filed, Mr. Loya has been prohibited from participating in any Club or League activities. That will continue indefinitely in accordance with the NFL’s decision.” – The Texans

Though suspended, Loya took to the public airwaves to voice his opposition to the NFL’s actions. He continues to take pride in the fact that he has never done anything corrupt. He could not be more thankful that all of the charges against him would eventually be dismissed. He promised to work in good faith with league leadership as they work through any outstanding questions about his employment.

“Although I voluntarily stood down from all team and league activities for more than two and a half years, I respectfully disagree with the NFL’s decision. I have always conducted myself with integrity, and I am grateful that the legal process ultimately resulted in the dismissal of all charges.” – Javier Loya

Loya said he looked forward to trying to have his reinstated. He’s committed to using that energy to provide for his family and serve the larger Houston community.

Under the current order, Loya cannot apply for reinstatement before June 2026. Until then, though, he is banned from participating in any club or league activities.
