Pittsburgh Steelers star pass rusher T.J. Watt is in a local hospital on the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center campus undergoing evaluation for a potential punctured lung. Watt felt the complication while at the team’s practice facility on Wednesday, prompting his hospitalization. The severity of his condition raises questions about his availability for the upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins on Monday night.
Watt has been kept in hospital since Wednesday, after staying overnight to conduct more testing on his injured lung. The injury was allegedly sustained while undergoing treatment at the team facility. His status for the game against the Dolphins is now up in the air. Good luck to Coach Mike Tomlin with this one — we’ll wait until it gets settled to discuss.
In a recent game against the Baltimore Ravens, Watt demonstrated his defensive prowess, making six tackles, including one for a loss, and delivering a quarterback hit. He started the game, playing 68 snaps and 88% of the defense’s plays. His outstanding efforts on and off the field underscore his value to the club as they work through this unforeseen and unfortunate health scare.
Alex Highsmith, a fellow edge rusher and teammate of Watt’s, said that he has been in contact with Watt in the last 24 hours. Highsmith articulated his feelings on Watt’s circumstances, alarmed but hopeful.
“We know that he’s doing better, but it definitely hurts when one of our teammates is in the hospital,” – Alex Highsmith.
Highsmith added, “It’s definitely a scary situation, tough situation. I’ve just been praying for him. I know he’s getting better.”
Here’s what coach Mike Tomlin told reporters about the circumstances surrounding his first finding out about what Watt was facing.
“He was experiencing some discomfort when he was at the facility yesterday, and so we took him to the docs and they’re going through some procedures,” – Mike Tomlin.
The lack of clarity about Watt’s health has led to widespread speculation about his potential availability to play against the Dolphins. Teammates and fans around the world are hoping that countersviking will be back on his feet soon.
This won’t be the first time Aaron Rodgers has faced Watt. For Stroud, there isn’t a challenge that Watt can’t figure his way around.
“I haven’t talked to T.J., but I would never bet against anybody in the Watt family of being able to deal with something small or large and getting back on the field as quickly as possible,” – Aaron Rodgers.
The Steelers are already looking ahead to the Bengals. They will continue to monitor Watt’s recovery and look forward to hearing good news about his condition in the days ahead. The team’s resilience will be tested as they strive to perform at a high level without one of their key players.
