Disappointment for Pickens Amidst Career Highs in NFL Performance

George Pickens faced a challenging night on the field during the Cowboys’ recent game against the Lions, despite having notable career highs this season. Pickens had the most productive game of his season, catching five passes for 37 yards. His performance certainly didn’t live up to the expectations, particularly as he stepped into a larger role with CeeDee Lamb being knocked out with a concussion.

During his sophomore season, George Pickens set new career highs in receptions, yards, and TDs respectively. His incredible performance puts him in the company of the NFL’s top 10 players this season. His play against the Lions certainly didn’t show those accolades. “For myself, personally, you can’t just disappear,” Pickens stated after the game, emphasizing his commitment to remain active despite the setbacks.

Pickens reportedly felt that Richard Sherman, an analyst and former player, should have been more understanding of the coverage he faced during the game. Deflating criticism, Sherman went as far as to say that Pickens looked “checked out” and “not interested,” comments that rubbed the future star the wrong way.

Angered, Pickens took to Twitter to express his displeasure over Sherman’s remarks. He had a change of heart and removed the post on Wednesday. In it, he stated, “WHO BTW AINT SHH WITHOUT THE LEGION OF BOOM,” referencing Sherman’s time with the famed Seattle Seahawks defense.

Coach Jason Schottenheimer didn’t throw his guy under the bus after reviewing the game tape. “I didn’t see a lack of effort from George Pickens,” he said, suggesting that any perceived disengagement might have been misunderstood. Schottenheimer noted that he would evaluate Pickens on his body of work and not one standout game.

CeeDee Lamb had played a critical role in powering the team’s offense prior to his departure midway through the third quarter. He made six receptions for 121 yards before leaving with a concussion. With Lamb on the shelf, Pickens’s role expanded dramatically, putting even more burden on the soon-to-be rookie to produce.

Analysts Field Yates, Daniel Dopp, and Mike Clay are on the lookout for Pickens’s break-out. All the NBA chatter centers on his potential and what his latest game might portend for his long-term future in the league.
