Manchester United’s journey this season has been marked by highs and lows, as the club grapples with inconsistency under head coach Ruben Amorim. The journey was not without adversity and heartbreak, but the resilience of this team was incredible. They came from a goal behind to secure a fabulous away win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday. While this performance was underwhelming, it was reassuring to see a glimpse of what this squad could be. After seven matches, they sit seventh in the Premier League, just four points behind Manchester City in second place.
Their manager, Ruben Amorim, who celebrated his 40 th Premier League match in charge of his side’s top-flight history, has been unfairly critiqued for his in-game coaching. Amorim’s 1.18 points per game average has been atrocious in comparison with his predecessor Erik ten Hag. Ten Hag’s points per game average was a mighty 1.72. Nevertheless, both players and fans remain hopeful for improvement as they reflect on the team’s mindset change following last season’s disappointing 15th-place finish.
Star winger Amad Diallo alluded to the new direction the team was taking already under Amorim as he promised a “big response” from Manchester United. He emphasized the positive shift in energy within the squad, stating that they approach each game with a belief in their ability to win.
“We go to the game and we feel we can win this game, so I think we are improving and the staff also are helping us to make that step.” – Amad Diallo
With the likes of United’s new signings, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, their attacking capabilities have certainly improved. Either way Mbeumo has made his impact felt – or, frankly, impossible to miss – this season. He now leads the club as the top Premier League scorer with five goals. His energetic influence on the field has offered a key attacking resource, helping to create a more threatening team.
Even with a few disappointing results in recent weeks, including a shocking home defeat to 10-man Everton, Mbeumo is committed to keeping his eyes on the prize. He admitted it has been a difficult season to navigate, but is confident that his side can win silverware.
“If you come to Manchester United, you want to win titles and the Premier League is one of them, so why not?” – Bryan Mbeumo
Amad wrote this, saying that winning the Premier League title is a dream Manchester United should be able to achieve and not just wish for. He thinks it’s feasible as soon as the next few years.
“Honestly, why not winning the league? Dreaming is possible, no?” – Amad Diallo
The team’s ability to bounce back from adversity has been evident in their victories over notable rivals Liverpool and Chelsea earlier this season. These wins showcase Manchester United’s potential and determination to reclaim their status among England’s elite clubs.
With eyes firmly focused on future fixtures, the players are proving they are dedicated to achieving more consistency. In fact, Amad noted a greater deal of optimism in the club’s locker room this year than a season ago. He pledged to supporters that they would always strive to be better than the previous match.
“I think the energy is positive. Honestly, it’s much, much better than last season. Like I say, we want to do better every game and I promise we will.” – Amad Diallo
