Gloucestershire County Cricket Club are delighted to announce an exciting new signing! Australian fast bowler Gabe Bell will be part of the squad for the first six matches of the 2026 County Championship season. The 30-year-old right-armer, a native of Tasmania’s capital Hobart, should have made his first-class debut on April 1 at Lord’s against Middlesex. This signing arrives as part of Gloucestershire’s bid to enhance their bowling attack heading into next season.
Bell has been one of the big stars on Australia’s domestic scene. He’s the ninth-ranking wicket-taker in the current Sheffield Shield season, with 16 wickets in five matches to his name thus far. As a professional cricketer, he said since 2017 he had learnt with Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield. This knowledge and experience makes him an excellent addition to the Gloucestershire team.
In Bell’s first competitive matches, he will face a daunting challenge. He’ll face off against the likes of Durham, Lancashire, Derbyshire, Kent and Northamptonshire. His height and pace bowling abilities will add a huge new weapon to Gloucestershire’s already strong bowling attack. These will be particularly valuable through the difficult, early conditions of the season.
Gabe Bell spoke of his excitement at joining Gloucestershire and what he can bring to help the team prosper.
“Obviously [I’m] thrilled to get the opportunity to come over and play some county cricket with Gloucestershire,” – Gabe Bell.
Gloucestershire’s director of cricket, Jon Lewis, welcomed Bell’s signing, highlighting the careful considerations made in enhancing the team’s performance.
“I can’t wait to get over to Bristol to meet everyone, and get started in the new year.” – Gabe Bell.
With Bell’s addition, Gloucestershire aims to bolster their performance in the County Championship as they prepare for a demanding start to the season. The club can’t wait to see how Bell comes together with the team chemistry. They certainly might be looking forward to seeing how she helps them achieve their tournament dreams!
“We looked hard at what it takes to win in our own conditions in April and May and Gabe comes highly recommended from our network of contacts across Australia.” – Jon Lewis.
As the start of April approaches, fans and players alike anticipate Bell’s debut and his potential impact on the team’s fortunes in the 2026 season.
