Danilo Gallinari, a prominent figure in professional basketball, has announced his retirement after a remarkable career spanning 14 seasons in the NBA. Gallinari’s had NBA stints with the Denver Nuggets, LA Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons and Milwaukee Bucks. He is known for his great contributions to the sport. He takes a remarkable achievement into retirement. Only 299 players have ever played at least 14 seasons in the league, and he’s one of them.
During his time, Gallinari greatly influenced the success of each team he played on. He went on to be an integral part of the Denver Nuggets title squad. It was the beginning of his NBA career where he was drafted as the second highest Italian player ever. His versatility and scoring ability allowed him to adapt to various roles, making him a valuable asset for every franchise he represented.
Gallinari’s legacy will always be defined by his scoring abilities. He ended his career with 11,607 points, making him the highest scoring Italian player in the history of the NBA. His shooting out into space catches the eye. He is currently sitting with 1,456 treys for his career and is 6th on the all-time list for players taller than 6-foot-10. In February 2021, he achieved a remarkable feat by hitting at least 10 three-pointers in a single game while coming off the bench, becoming one of only eight players in league history to do so.
Even given all these accomplishments, Gallinari’s career was not without adversity. Beyond that, he really got kicked to the ground hard with injuries. His ACL tears cost him two entire seasons, once in the 2013-14 and again in the 2022-23 seasons. But he fought through that and made an impressive comeback to play some of his best football, serving as an incredible inspiration and testament to the power of sports.
Gallinari will be hanging up the high tops as 2024 will be his last NBA season. He appeared in Game 6 of the Milwaukee Bucks’ first-round playoff elimination against the Indiana Pacers. His departure turns the page on an era — for his teammates and all of Boomer’s fans.
