Pacheco Set to Return as Chiefs Face Cowboys

The Kansas City Chiefs provided some encouraging news regarding running back Isiah Pacheco. He’s expected to start with the team for their Thursday night road game against the Dallas Cowboys. Pacheco had been out since Oct. 27 with a right knee injury that occurred in a win against the Washington Commanders. He should be rejoining the team’s offense any day now.

At only 26, Pacheco was the most dynamic force in the Chiefs backfield prior to his injury. He dazzled with a league-leading 4.2 rushing yards per attempt this year. His absence led to the Chiefs using more of old warhorse running back Kareem Hunt. Now 30 years old, Hunt has played a prominent role while Pacheco is healing from shoulder surgery. In the Chiefs’ miraculous comeback victory over the Indianapolis Colts, Hunt reached new heights. In doing so, he set season highs in rushing attempts and rushing yards for the game, including a touchdown to ice the game.

Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid expressed optimism regarding Pacheco’s return, stating, “We’ll get him in there.” This welcome development comes amid what has been an atrocious season for the team to date. They’re counting on reliable veterans such as Hunt as they wait for Pacheco to fully heal.

Pacheco is reactivated on the roster! In addition, Kansas City has signed veteran running back Dare Ogunbowale, who was cut by the Texans earlier in October. Pierce has been mostly buried on the depth chart this year, managing only 10 rushes for 26 yards in four contests. His new team is optimistic that he’ll be able to make his debut against that old team, though likely in a limited role.

Reid acknowledged the importance of Pierce’s integration into the team’s system, saying, “The main thing right now is just get in and learn what we’re doing and we’ll take it from there.” This promise shines a light on the Chiefs’ efforts to help new recruits get up and running as quickly as possible with their strategic play-style.

Brett Veach, the Chiefs’ general manager, is a master talent evaluator. He deftly assembles talent that fortifies the roster on hand. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how Pacheco’s return and Pierce’s potential debut will impact the team’s dynamics as they head into a critical matchup against the Cowboys.
