Saints Make Bold Move Signing Kicker Tucker After Ravens Release

The New Orleans Saints have signed veteran kicker Justin Tucker following his release from the Baltimore Ravens earlier this year. The decision is made as the Saints try to strengthen their special teams unit after a tough season. Tucker’s 13 illustrious years as a Raven have been nothing short of pure magic. He was considered one of the all-time great kickers in NFL history.

Tucker’s release from the Ravens in May was a forced move on the team’s part after graphic allegations about Tucker were publicly released. Sixteen massage therapists from eight spas in the Baltimore-area have publicly accused him of sexual misconduct. This has caused a major outcry and launched an Inspector General’s Investigation. Despite the allegations, Tucker remained on the hook for three years of his ultra-rare, four-year $22 million contract extension signed in 2020. Signed in 2022, this contract turned him into the highest-paid kicker in the league’s history at that time.

On top of all his off-field headaches, Tucker had a tough time on the field. That led him to a career-low success rate, hitting just 73.3% of his kicks in his last season with Baltimore. His poor performance and the harassment complaints led to him being placed on administrative leave. He will miss the first 10 games of the upcoming 2025 season for multiple violations of the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Even with these difficulties, Tucker still had an opportunity to shine in Cincinnati. He was called up to fill in for the injured kicker, Evan McPherson, for five games. That recent workout with the Saints was his first since his November 11 NFL reinstatement. Saints coach Kellen Moore spoke highly of Tucker’s confidence and competitive spirit, highlighting his long history.

“He’s been a really good kicker in this league for a really long time and he’s had a ton of success and he’s been a leader for Baltimore for a long time.” – Kellen Moore

Tucker’s prestigious reputation reaches new heights with eye-popping accolades. He achieved seven Pro Bowl selections and five first-team All-Pro honors in his time with the Ravens. At 36 years young he adds plenty of experience to their squad. The Saints would love to see them make their kicking game better with his powder knowledge.
