Rick Fox, the former NBA player renowned for his time with the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers, has announced his candidacy for political office in the Bahamas. In 1991, Fox was selected by the Boston Celtics, as the 24th overall pick in the first round of the 1991 NBA draft. He played six seasons of the Celtics before jumping to their rival Lakers. In his seven years with Los Angeles, Fox won three NBA championship rings, cementing his legacy in professional basketball. After going pro in basketball, he made a proactive choice and co-founded esports organization Echo Fox in 2015. This competitive gaming organization recently acquired a franchise slot in the North America League of Legends Championship Series (LCS).
The launch of his political ambitions comes at a watershed moment for the archipelago. Even as the Bahamas prepares, they face enormous odds. High-profile corruption cases, the widening burden of illegal immigration, and continued recovery efforts from Hurricane Dorian all stand to distract. Fox’s dedication to contesting these issues strikes a chord with numerous residents eager for leadership that actually gets results.
