Drew Timme Joins Los Angeles Lakers on Two-Way Contract

Drew Timme, the former Gonzaga superstar and two-time West Coast Conference Player of the Year, has signed a two-way deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. He’s completely prepared to bring his talents to the NBA! The 25-year-old player, who is recognized as Gonzaga’s all-time leading scorer with 2,307 points, has shown impressive performance and potential in recent months.

Timme’s path to the Lakers hasn’t been a traditional one. He had four really electrifying seasons at Gonzaga. There, he became an indispensable playmaker and helped lead the Bulldogs to some of their most promising seasons in recent history. After his successful college career, Timme went undrafted in this year’s NBA Draft. He subsequently signed a standard Exhibit 10 deal with the Milwaukee Bucks to join their training camp. He missed out on a training camp invite with the Milwaukee Bucks. Instead, he became committed to sharpening his skills down in the G League with the Stockton Kings.

In March, Timme inked a deal with the Brooklyn Nets, where he made a significant impression over nine games. In his three seasons with the Nets, he averaged just 12.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He made two starts at the World Cup that showed his ability to perform on the biggest stage. Timme didn’t have a lengthy tenure in the league, he certainly wowed us with his talent. It quickly became clear that he could make a much bigger impact.

His G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, provided him with more opportunities to flaunt his four-year collegiate talents. He capitalized on those opportunities and really separated himself. This season, he proved he belonged by averaging a whopping 25.5 ppg. He grabbed 7.5 rebounds and dished 4.0 assists per game with South Bay. It was his steady play that really caught the eye of Lakers management. This was particularly so during practices that included NBA superstar LeBron James, who was on a rehabilitation assignment with the South Bay club.

In order to fit Timme’s signing on the roster, the Lakers waived Christian Koloko, opening a two-way spot on their roster. This strategic move reflects the franchise’s commitment to enhancing its squad with young talent capable of contributing to both the main team and the G League affiliate.

As Timme embarks on his next journey with the Lakers, Gonzaga fans will be waiting with bated breath.
