Bufkin has been signed to a hardship deal by the Memphis Grizzlies. This addition clearly bolsters their roster ahead of a big home game against the Denver Nuggets on Monday. Bufkin came to Detroit after spending his first two years in the league with the Atlanta Hawks. Today, though, he’s a valuable skill set to the Brooklyn Nets after being traded to the team in the offseason.
The No. 15 overall selection in the 2023 NBA Draft, Bufkin has done nothing but impress in his short time in the league. He heads into his third season in the league with strong positive momentum. In the G League, he averaged 22 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5 assists in two games this season. His jaw-dropping performance was enough to earn him a call-up from the South Bay G-League team, which is the Los Angeles Lakers affiliate. This new opportunity sets him up for a larger, more influential role with the Grizzlies.
After offseason turmoil and trauma, the Grizzlies will open with only seven healthy players on their roster. Their smart signing of Bufkin should help them attract more talent and get more competitive through this initial matchup. With his proven ability as a scorer and playmaker, Bufkin’s going to have an immediate impact during his rookie season.
In his one year with the Hawks, Bufkin established a reputation as a prolific scorer and playmaker. He’s really strong defensively, he plays every area of the game well. This versatility would make him a key player for the desperate Grizzlies as they look to take down the powerful Nuggets.
BUFKIN … is a guy who does really well under pressure. Considering his recent success in the G League, Norman Powell’s ascension to this opportunity seems almost preordained. The Grizzlies’ coaching staff is understandably very optimistic about how he can help transform the team. They’re out to prove they belong in league play.
