The Scottish Premiership displays fierce competition amongst teams competing at all ends of the table. Their opponents Dundee currently find themselves in the midst of the longest spell of away defeats in this year’s league. They’re really terrible, sitting only one point above last place Livingston. At the same time, Rangers have flown up the table on the wings of new manager Danny Röhl, taking full points since he took charge. As the season progresses, teams like Aberdeen are finding their footing, while others such as St Mirren struggle to secure victories.
Dundee’s Struggles Continue
Dundee’s troubles run deeper as they continue to lose away matches. Their three away defeats constitute the longest current away losing streak in the Scottish Premiership. This troubling trend has become an increasingly grave concern for players and management alike. The reality is just as dire. Dundee are just a point clear of Livingston, who now occupy bottom place in the standings.
Livingston’s season has been fraught with difficulty thus far, the Livi Lions winning just one match to date. They are still just a single point short of the safety line, illustrating the cut-throat race at the bottom of the table. The upcoming fixtures will prove critical for both Dundee and Livingston as they look to steer clear of any fears of the drop.
Rangers on a Winning Streak
In sharp juxtaposition to Dundee’s failings, Rangers have felt revitalised since the arrival of Danny Röhl on the scene. Under his guidance, they’ve now taken full points in each of their contested matches, reflecting an immediate and affirming reversal of the club’s fortunes. This bounce back has restored the Rampage’s credibility in the league and leaves them set up to compete for a deep run come playoff time.
Hibernian sit above Rangers on goal difference, having played a game more. This tight race is a good illustration of how topsy-turvy the league table can become. Each game counts, with teams battling for East Coast or West Coast gridiron glory.
Aberdeen Finding Form
Aberdeen has really done a 180 on their season, after a horrible start. They have lost just one of their last five league games, indicating a significant turnaround in form. Notably, during this successful stretch, Aberdeen has scored in each of the last five games. This win will give them a load of confidence as they look to progress upwards in the league table.
For St Mirren, the situation is desperate indeed as they look to avoid extending their league winless run to six. It would be second time this year third overall if they concede any more points to Celtic. Form against Celtic on the biggest occasion hasn’t been great for the Dons. Plus, they’ve dropped 13 of 15 all-time meetings with the Hoops. This stays in the second half of the season dalit statistic to build pressure on St Mirren to continue to change their fortunes and earn crucial points.
The Road Ahead
Falkirk’s season has seen them suffer a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde routine on their travels, switching between away wins and defeats on the trot. After a poor return from the last away match – a 0-4 hammering at Celtic – they left themselves with little room for error. This lack of consistency calls into question their ability to play out on the road in an effective manner.
With fixtures coming thick and fast, Hearts will look to continue their strong away form, with their last victory at Pittodrie coming in May 2016. Their tireless pursuit of winnability vibrates the intensity of the league. Each game at this point is laden with significant stakes both in terms of positioning and confidence.
Celtic has to feel riding high after consecutive 4-0 victories. They could pull to within just four points of leaders Hearts with another win, though. The competition hasn’t let up at any tier of the league. Neither can fans, who are eager to find out how each club will step up during this pivotal time in the season.
