On Wednesday night, the New Orleans Pelicans got a shot in the arm. Star forward Zion Williamson returns to the court for the first time as the New Orleans Pelicans take on the Denver Nuggets! Williamson, who had been out with a Grade 1 left hamstring strain since November 4, ended up sitting out eight games as he prioritized his own recovery. His return comes at a crucial time for the Pelicans, who are struggling with a 2-10 record and recently parted ways with head coach Willie Green.
Williamson’s phenomenal metrics leading up to his injury further emphasize how critical he is to their success. He came into Wednesday night’s game averaging 22.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.0 steals per game on the season. His talents are evident on the offensive and defensive end of the court. With his return, the Pelicans have the perfect opportunity to end their six-game losing streak.
Williamson’s return to the court isn’t the only reason to be excited, though! The Pelicans got back newcomer forward Saddiq Bey, who’d missed time while nursing a left ankle sprain. Bey certainly adds offensive and defensive depth to the Pistons’ roster that has been harried by injuries and shallow performance.
Even with these reinforcements, the Pelicans aren’t getting it done at home. Guard Dejounte Murray is still out while he heals from a ruptured right Achilles tendon. The rest of the crew needs to come together to overcome the obstacles that lay before them. Combined, they are spearheading a turnaround for their season.
As Williamson prepares to hit the court again, all fans and analysts are clearly looking towards one of the brightest stars in the league. His dynamic playing style and scoring ability could be the spark the Pelicans need to reclaim their footing in the competitive Western Conference.
