Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg will miss Wednesday’s home game against the New York Knicks after being ruled out with an illness. Sources confirmed his absence to ESPN. The team pulled a bit of misdirection, placing him on the official injury report with a new addition early Wednesday morning. Flagg is an excellent player in his own right and a legitimate contender to go No. 1 overall in the 2025 NBA Draft. He failed to show up for the team’s shootaround the morning of the game.
And just as the Mavericks were preparing to host the New York Knicks at their home court, alarming news about Flagg’s health began to emerge. During his time in the league, since rookie and fan favorite energy, his play ability has left both fans and teammates mesmerized. In short, they really miss him. With Flagg now sidelined, the Mavericks will need to rely on a different game plan against a tough Knicks squad.
Martin joined Flagg on the injury report ahead of this one. This creates an additional obstacle for the Mavericks’ deep roster as they get ready for their first in-season showdown. The team’s multitude of health concerns could be enough to keep them out of contention. Like the hosts, they, too, are hungry for a win on home soil.
ESPN NBA writer and Shams Charania was the first to report that Flagg had come down with the illness, and would be missing from the game. His image has become inextricably tied to this reform. The Mavericks team is extremely concerned about Flagg’s health. They are understandably optimistic for a rapid recovery, as he is a key player in their long-term plans.
