Aaron Rodgers, the veteran starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, will sit out practice on Wednesday. As it stands, he has a fracture in his left wrist, which is not his throwing hand. The team’s head coach, Mike Tomlin, announced that Rodgers’ status for the upcoming game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday will be evaluated later this week. This announcement follows one of those very instances where after a game where Rodgers claimed he wanted to come back, he did in fact stay out.
At 41 years old, Rodgers is 24-5 lifetime against the Bears. His likely absence this week makes it even more impressive that stat really is. Wishing him a swift recovery 🫶🏿 See you soon, @AaronRodgers12. Despite this injury, Tomlin has said that Rodgers won’t need surgery to fix the fracture. This news gives fans and teammates a bit of hope as they head into a pivotal rivalry matchup.
Following the team’s latest upset win, Rodgers welcomed his teammates jubilantly at Rogers’ door on his way to the locker room. He initially kept his left hand folded into the pocket of his black hoodie. Even though he’s not able to participate in practices and games at the moment, this gesture shows his continued investment into the organization.
Tomlin was clear that it will be up to Rodgers to determine whether he’s playing or not over the course of the week. “It’s his body, so certainly he’s going to be a component of the discussion,” Tomlin stated. Analyzing Rogers’ game is important as the head coach believes. This assessment will go a long way towards determining whether or not he will be able to suit up on Sunday. “I don’t need it for my comfort, but I certainly need it for functionality, and functionality is a major component of whether or not he gets an opportunity this week,” Tomlin explained.
Rodgers will be re-evaluated on Friday. This test should determine whether or not he’s able to go against the Bears. Tomlin expressed cautious optimism about this evaluation process: “We’ll see where the week leads us, and we’ll take it day by day.”
Should Rodgers not be available, Mason Rudolph would be next up to make the start for the Packers. Tomlin reassured fans that if Rudolph steps in, the game plan would not change dramatically from what they would have done with Rodgers under center. This sentiment was echoed by wide receiver Calvin Austin III, who remarked, “A lot of guys that were on that team are still here, and that’s why it’s like with Mason it is no blinking or anything.“
Quarterback Will Howard, a rookie, will receive some reps to get him ready for the Bears match-up. This training will prepare him to be a seamless substitute if Rodgers can’t go.
As the week goes on, fans and teammates alike will hope to hear news of Rodgers’ improvement and possible return. His experience and leadership will continue to be vital to the Packers moving forward this season.
