The Houston Texans will take on the Buffalo Bills in the 12th Week of play. They’ll do so without their starting quarterback, C.J. Stroud, who remains in concussion protocol. After Stroud got a concussion in Week 9, it didn’t look good. He hasn’t passed all of the required protocols, so he’ll sit out his third straight game. Head Coach DeMeco Ryans later clarified that the team’s tightly compressed schedule played a role in Stroud’s absence.
The center had been limited all this week leading up to Sunday. His recovery hasn’t come along far enough for him to participate against New England on Sunday. “But right now, with the short turnaround game on Thursday, just don’t have enough days for those guys to be available,” Ryans explained.
In Stroud’s absence, despite the Texans losing their starting quarterback, backup Davis Mills has looked brilliant and led the Texans to a surprising 2-0 record. Mills’ performance has provided a silver lining for the team as they strive to improve their playoff chances, which currently stand at 26%. A win over the Bills would go a long way in improving those chances.
The last time C.J. Stroud took the field was in Week 9, as he’s been out since due to concussion-related problems. His return isn’t expected until Week 13, when the Texans face off against the Indianapolis Colts. Ryans said Stroud is “doing better,” but the coaching staff is still keeping a close eye on him.
Injuries of note
In addition to Anderson, safety Jalen Pitre will be out for the Week 12 matchup as well, with a concussion. Like Stroud, Pitre’s absence raises concerns for the Texans as they prepare for a critical game against a formidable opponent.
