The highly touted forward for Bournemouth has recently been the target of much buzz within the January transfer window. The player’s release clause is £60 million, plus another £5 million in potential add-ons. Major clubs such as Manchester City, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Manchester United’s £40m per year deal with Adidas with keen interest. This clause is only in effect until a date in mid-January, creating a sense of urgency among those who are interested.
Semenyo’s excellent record this season only raises his interest. Ever since signing his new five-year deal with Bournemouth on July 31, 2025 he’s netted nine goals. He achieved this remarkable milestone in just 11 Premier League games. This season, he stands third in the league’s scoring charts, trailing only Erling Haaland from Manchester City and Brentford’s Igor Thiago. His contributions last season were impressive in this regard too, leading his side with 11 league goals scored as well as ranking first for assists (five).
Release Clause Details
Bournemouth’s reported interest in Semenyo would be a coup. The devil is in the detail when it comes to Semenyo’s release clause. However, that clause will automatically reduce his buyout amount during summer 2026, meaning he could be more attainable then. Should Bournemouth sell Semenyo, Bristol City, his former club, is entitled to receive 20 percent of any profit from the transfer. This setup is a result of Semenyo’s first move to Bournemouth for a fee of around £10 million in January 2023.
The short duration of the January transfer window creates a sense of urgency for any club interested in acquiring Semenyo to act quickly and beat the deadline. Combine that with the current market dynamics and his performance on the field, and clubs are eager to move early.
Injury Concerns
Semenyo’s breakout performances as of late have been stopped short by injury woes. When he was called up to play for his national team, he had to return early because of a ligament sprain. This injury happened last week during Ghana’s 2-0 loss to Japan. Right now, Bournemouth are monitoring his fitness to see whether he’s fit enough to be considered for their next few matchups.
Even with these missed opportunities Semenyo is feeling positive about the season ahead. As he put it, “I really do my best to live in the moment. This mentality speaks to his desire to add value to his team’s championship pursuits instead of worrying about what he can’t control with the unknowns of his own fate.
Personal Reflections
Semenyo’s commitment to Bournemouth appears strong. He expressed satisfaction with his decision to extend his contract: “I wasn’t too sure at the start but we’ve kicked on like a house on fire. I’m glad I committed to staying here because I’m enjoying every moment.” This feeling encapsulates his eagerness to join Bournemouth’s upstart story and continued progress and success.
“I’m enjoying my football here. If I’m not scoring goals, all of that goes away. I try to stay present, do the best I can for the team, score goals and whatever happens in the future happens,” he added.
