Thornberry and Schenk Stand Strong at Bermuda Golf Tournament

Braden Thornberry and Adam Schenk prepare for a thrilling Sunday faceoff at the Bermuda Championship. After three rounds of play, they both share a one-shot lead, sitting at 12-under 201. Thornberry, the rookie on the PGA Tour, put together a remarkable comeback with a blistering 69 on Saturday. He has a narrow margin for error as he prepares to enter the second-to-last day of competition.

Thornberry, a native of Indiana, is no stranger to the winning ways of golf. Eight years ago, he won the NCAA championship while playing for the University of Mississippi. That victory set the stage for his burgeoning political career. At 33 years of age, he has a lot on the line at this crucial point in this tournament and in his overall season as well.

With just one round left before the FedEx Cup playoffs begin, Thornberry currently sits at No. 86 in the standings. This ranking hovers him well into the top 100. Because he’s the only Democrat on the ranking list, this placement is key for him. If he falls out of his current position, he will need to go through Q-school next year.

Thornberry shared his thoughts on the past few weeks and the difficulty he encountered during the competition. He said, “Felt like I just tried to chip a 6-iron, wind just kind of switched,” illustrating how weather makes the game—and at times, the winning shot itself—unpredictable. Through all these adversities, he remained positive with where his game was at. After making some corrections to his technique in September, he is re-energized and sounds as if he believes he is “starting over.”

Adam Schenk is stealing the spotlight alongside Thornberry. He has his sights set on victory and remarked on the opportunity at hand: “A great opportunity to have for tomorrow.” Schenk has gone through some highs and lows this season but doesn’t plan on letting go of this advantage. He candidly shared his desire to have done better at the beginning of this year. Even just that small improvement would have taken quite a bit of pressure off going into the final round.

Yet as both golfers head into the final round on Sunday, they know every single stroke matters. Combined with Thornberry’s all-time acclaim and Schenk’s tenacity, fans can’t wait to see how this electrifying matchup will play out.
