Rhamondre Stevenson, the New England Patriots starting running back, is out again. He’ll miss his third consecutive game due to a toe injury. The New England Patriots are preparing to face the New York Jets on Thursday night. This absence might not be more consequential time. The game is scheduled to air on Prime Video at 8:15 p.m.
With Stevenson’s injury, that opportunity opened the door for TreVeyon Henderson, who has since moved into an expanded role in Ohio State’s backfield. Henderson showcased his abilities during Sunday’s thrilling 28-23 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, recording impressive touchdown runs of 55 and 69 yards. His performance has helped carry the Patriots during this difficult time without starting running back Montae [sic] Ball.
Besides Stevenson, a handful of other major players will be missing for the all-important next game. Tight end Austin Hooper, who would’ve otherwise played, will miss the first game of the season after a concussion. Kayshon Boutte will miss his second game in a row due to a hamstring injury. Boutte has been one of the most dynamic weapons on the Tigers’ offense, scoring a team-high five touchdown receptions this season. In addition, Christian Elliss will miss his second consecutive game as well, due to a hip injury.
To strengthen their current squad, the Patriots have re-signed Jonathan Ward, a sixth-year veteran running back, into their practice squad. Beyond them, they have a rookie option in Rushawn Baker. He could be called up for game day elevation to provide further depth to the running back position.
The players are focusing on their upcoming match-up with the Jets. To win it all, they’ll need to overcome brutal injuries and rely upon the developing skills of Henderson and Baker. The coaching staff will be pouring all their efforts into doing the little things needed to keep their Rattlers competitive in this primetime divisional showdown.
