Ross Adair has now formally ruled himself out of the forthcoming T20 series against Bangladesh. He’s out with a stress injury in his knee. The 31-year-old steered clear of the squad in an equal series of decisions. This decision allows him to put more effort into his rehabilitation and prepare for the T20 World Cup in February 2026. Adair’s absence adds to a rough 2023 in a year full of maladies.
Adair, who was born in South Africa, made his international debut in May. Yet, sadly, he got hurt in games that put him behind them. He proved his mettle by coming up with a sensational 58-ball century against South Africa towards the end of last year. On that day his disruptive performance proved that he could develop into a dominant force. So far this year, he has 48 runs against the West Indies and 26 and 33 runs against England in three T20I innings.
The T20 series vs. Bangladesh will be played November 27, November 29 and December 2. With Adair ruled out, Ireland have brought in Jordan Neill as a replacement for the Tipperary man. The Limerick man is currently included in the 15-man Ireland Test squad. He wants to be the biggest T20 player in the world.
Adair’s departure from the series highlights that prioritizing long-term health over short-term competition should come first. He focuses on his healing and gives himself the space and time to heal. His immediate target is to get himself into prime condition for the 2026 T20 World Cup. This is an important decision, especially given the extreme physical strain that players encounter at the international level.
