New Zealand on Saturday completed an emphatic whitewash of the West Indies in the fourth and final T20 international at Saxton Oval, Nelson. They won an overwhelming victory. New Zealand had won the toss and opted to bowl first. That decision set the tone for a dominant bowling display, which saw the West Indies restricted to 38 runs in 16.3 overs.
West Indies never recovered the momentum lost at the top of their innings. Athanaze was the surprise standout performer – finding late boundaries to finish with an invaluable 21 off 18 balls. His innings featured one four and two sixes, but it was commendable that he was able to score boundaries from the position his side found themselves in. On Athanaze’s dismissal, that was obviously a big wicket. He had no answer to a Mitchell short ball that had him snared in front for the inauspicious score of 30 for 1 in the fifth over.
Jangoo had a tangible influence on the outcome by scoring 12 off 18 balls. He further demonstrated his ability, patience, and power with two eye-catching fours in his innings. His live-wire efforts weren’t enough to get the team over a daunting final tally. Hope only managed to score three runs off three balls. This emphasizes just how terrible the West Indies’ batting was in this game.
In the bowling department, New Zealand’s Jamieson was impressive, bowling two overs and giving away only 15 runs. Neesham’s bowling proved particularly effective, as he claimed one crucial wicket, contributing significantly to the team’s success in restricting West Indies to a low total.
The contest underscored New Zealand’s tactical acumen and unwavering aggression with the ball that completely unraveled the West Indies batting order. With this victory, New Zealand takes the hosanna over the series. They are all phenomenal cricketers and about as well-rounded performers as it comes, showcasing talent on the best possible stage.
