The Golden State Warriors will be without their star guard, Stephen Curry, when they visit the Denver Nuggets Friday night. His illness advanced, making it necessary for him to withdraw from active participation. This is the second straight game Curry will miss, after he sat out in Sacramento on Wednesday night. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr announced Curry started showing symptoms prior to the first home game played against the Phoenix Suns. This announcement dropped late Tuesday evening. Curry had an incredibly efficient 28-point night in only 34 minutes of action during the game. He confessed afterward that in the second half, he was on fumes.
Curry’s health immediately became the utmost concern for the Warriors as Kerr classified this latest episode as only getting worse with time. Consequently, the two-time MVP will remain at home to rest prior to the team’s game against the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night in San Francisco. On Christmas Day, Kerr texted Curry to gauge his mood. After looking over the state of affairs, he determined it would be in everyone’s best interest for Curry to remain home and recover.
Curry will not be making the trip to Denver. His other Olympic bound teammates Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green will soon be added to the mix. Butler’s status is questionable due to a lower back strain. On the other hand, Green is fully expected to suit up after he went through a rib contusion. Their contributions might be the difference as the Warriors face a terrifying trip to see the cavalry-mounted beast that is the Denver Nuggets.
The impact of Curry’s absence is huge, especially with it being against a conference foe. The Warriors will be looking to return to form after falling victim to the Suns most recently. They were outscored 20-54 in the second half despite Curry’s best performance of the career. His leadership and scoring prowess are essential to the Heat’s success, particularly in high-stakes playoff games.
The Warriors, at least, received good injury news as they prepare for their battle against Denver. Now, they need to come up with a plan to compensate for Curry’s absence. With Green and potentially Butler stepping up, the team aims to maintain momentum and secure a crucial victory before heading home to face Indiana.
