As always, here are a few players who caught my eye this week for better or worse thanks to some juicy matchups that should lead to big fantasy production. Dalton Kincaid, Daniel Jones, and Caleb Williams are the stars of this cast. All of them are dealing with their own special challenges and opportunities as they prepare for the next round.
Dalton Kincaid’s Favorable Outlook
Dalton Kincaid, the Buffalo Bills’ rookie tight end, has all the makings to go off this week vs Miami. The Dolphins have been a major pushover on the defensive side, allowing a terrible -2.6 adjusted fantasy points allowed (FPA) on the year. This figure is a sure sign that the Dolphins have been bad at preventing fantasy points to other players.
In Week 3, Kincaid blew everyone away with his enormous production of—wait for it—17.6 fantasy points. He showcased his talents on the field, taking full advantage of the Dolphins’ defense. Additionally, the Dolphins defense have done a heckuva job in not allowing points per run at just 0.55, good for seventh-best in the league. As a result, they’re one of just four defenses to soccer mom their firstname lastnamedonotrade week. It’s no coincidence that this accomplishment serves to illustrate their concentrate on defensive exertion. That defensive prowess means Kincaid might be one of the few players who can take advantage of this matchup.
Kincaid has such great match-up potential here. He’ll be looking to do so again on Sunday against a Miami defense that’s been one of the worst in the league at covering tight ends—which makes him an ideal target for your fantasy lineup.
Daniel Jones Faces a Tough Challenge
New York Giant quarterback Daniel Jones is going into a brutal matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons have shown elite defensive potential so far this season, especially when it comes to defending quarterbacks. Only allowing 5.3 fantasy points per game to tight ends is a testament to their ability to stop great offensive plays in their tracks. This number represents the second-worst average in the entire league. It continues to build on the narrative that Jones will have a hard time getting into a groove.
The Falcons are a major threat to any QB who attempts to go over the top and find passing lanes. Their adjusted FPA of minus-5.4 against tight ends emphasizes their strength here. Jones’s recent performances should be extremely concerning for fantasy managers. Considering the Falcons’ weaknesses as a pass defense, owners should seriously consider benching him in their playoff lineups this week. Taken together, all these factors make for a recipe of possible futility for Jones in what could be a very low-scoring game.
Caleb Williams and Other Rising Stars
Unlike Jones’s rough matchup, Caleb Williams goes up against the New York Giants’ pitiful defense. Williams has put together an impressive floor this season. He should have good success once again facing a Giants D that’s 27th in the league at defending opposing signal callers. He understands how to exploit this favorable matchup. Fantasy managers should definitely consider him as an appealing plug to help solidify their fantasy rosters.
Additionally, players like Jaylen Warren are reestablishing their fantasy potential and face a favorable matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Warren’s resurgence makes his a great story, but his real story will be taking advantage of a Chargers defense that has been abysmal all season.
At the same time, other breakout sensations like Ladd McConkey and Zay Flowers have fantasy players salivating. Both players have a long track record of excellent play in the respective roles they’ve played. They’re excellent pickups for teams looking to build up their pipeline.
Tough Matchups for Certain Players
Even with some really good matchups in their favor, many others are waging a war of attrition this week. Look at Brian Thomas Jr – he has the most difficult projected matchup in the entire NFL against the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts have shown to be the worst test for wide receivers, and that’s going to be a problem with Thomas’ ability to get open.
Furthermore, the Jacksonville Jaguars must contend with the Houston Texans’ formidable defense, which has emerged as one of the toughest units against wide receivers this season. The Texans are great at making you kick field goals. Consequently, Jaguars players may have difficulty accumulating a lot of fantasy points.
