Tottenham Hotspur unconditionally support our player Destiny Udogie and his family. This support comes on the heels of a deeply disturbing, recently reported incident in which he was allegedly threatened with a gun. The football club added that it had been supporting Udogie and his family in the aftermath of the September 6 incident. They’ll continue to provide the support we need to advance this work going forward.
On that night, police received reports at 11:14 PM of a man in his 20s being threatened with a firearm. Responding officers soon found the victim, who was later identified as Udogie. The subsequent investigation revealed that there had been a third victim—this one a man in his 20s. He had reportedly been extorted, intimidated, and threatened by that same man.
A 31-year-old man was later arrested on September 8. Authorities charged him with possession of firearms with intent, blackmail, and operating a vehicle without a driver’s license. The nature of the allegations has been deeply concerning to many fans and the club.
In their statement addressing the incident, Tottenham Hotspur made it clear that they will be providing support to Udogie as he navigates this troubling ordeal.
“We have been providing support for Destiny and his family since the incident and will continue to do so.” – spokesperson for Tottenham Hotspur club
Udogie was one of the stars in Tottenham’s excellent 4-0 win over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League. He was nothing short of brilliant on the field, despite the off-field chaos. The club’s support for him will be crucial in getting through what could be a potentially painful time.
The police investigation into the incidents involving Udogie and the other victim remains open and active. Key leaders are still working to learn additional information about the purported threats. The arrest of the suspect is an important step towards addressing serious safety concerns. We applaud this action as a step toward safeguarding players and their families.
