The Jacksonville Jaguars have successfully secured wide receiver Jakobi Meyers from the Las Vegas Raiders, marking a significant move in advance of the upcoming games. Meyers has developed an impressive career since coming into the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He brings key experience and talent that he’ll inject directly into the Jaguars’ talented, young roster.
As evidenced by his having played with nine different starting quarterbacks throughout his career, Meyers has remained a competitor in an ever-changing landscape in the NFL. During his 97-game career, he has started 76 times. Over his first 49 games, Ebron has made incredible strides, already recording 422 receptions for 4,921 receiving yards and scoring 20 touchdowns. This pickup should help further develop the Jaguars’ offensive game plan as they look to build off their best season of the last decade.
Meyers is, as it stands, in the final season of a three-year, $33 million deal signed back in 2023. His 2025 cap hit is $14.98 million. Here’s the sticky wicket, so to speak… he has no guaranteed money remaining on his contract. This financial flexibility gives Jaguars a ton of possibilities when it comes to managing the roster long-term.
Most impressively, Meyers has not only been productive last season but in recent years, as he’s topped 800 receiving yards in each of the last four seasons. He has struggled with drops this season with 11 on his career, never surpassing two in a season. Still, he remains an incredibly reliable target. In only seven games in the ongoing season, he has 33 receptions for 352 yards. He still has not found the end zone.
Meyers had asked to be traded earlier, after contract extension talks broke down in August. He reiterated his wish for a trade last week, indicating that he wanted “to be in a good spot” as his team navigated a challenging season. The Jaguars made some serious investments to improve their roster this offseason and getting Meyers would be the cherry on top. Under the leadership of new General Manager James Gladstone, they’ve made ten trades since his appointment on February 21.
With Meyers set to have his 29th birthday on November 9, he provides Jacksonville with a unique combination of youth and experience. He developed his wide-ranging skill set during his time with the New England Patriots and the Raiders. Now, he’s eager to show off that talent with the Jaguars.
