The Washington Commanders suffered a major blow when quarterback Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow. This particular injury came during the Las Vegas Raiders ugly 38-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. With under 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter, Daniels was injured on a tackle by Seahawk linebacker Drake Thomas. The situation played out on the Seattle 4-yard line and it was a scene that left Daniels patently distressed.
Daniels put himself through the ringer in a game in which he was hit 14 times. Per TruMedia, that was the second fewest pressure he saw all year. Even with those difficulties, he was on his way to going 16 of 22 for 153 yards and one interception before leaving the game. He had an impressive ground game, running 51 yards and adding one touchdown on the ground too.
This injury marks a significant setback for Daniels, who has already faced two other injuries this season: a sprained knee that sidelined him for two games and a hamstring injury that kept him out of another. The good news is that the severity of the dislocated elbow seems to be the only major issue on his current injury list.
Daniels was scheduled for an MRI on Monday to verify the injury and figure out a recovery period. His absence will prompt the Commanders to rely on veteran quarterback Marcus Mariota in their upcoming matchup against the Detroit Lions next Sunday.
Daniels lights it up down on the field, going through his impressive skill. On the court, his performance has further cemented his role as a team leader. His teammates have flocked to him, driving home their vision of his strong-willed drive and willpower.

Head Coach Dan Quinn acknowledged the violent nature of football and emphasized the unpredictability of injuries, saying, “You don’t want to think that way where an injury could take place.”
The impact of Daniels’ injury resonates with both the team and fans, as he has become an integral part of the Commanders’ strategy this season. On the field, his intangibles are off the charts, and he thrives in clutch situations. His presence will most certainly be missed on the field and in the clubhouse.
The dislocated elbow, while tragic to see, is a testament to the physical sacrifice that the game of professional football requires. Marcus Mariota expressed the harsh reality of the sport, noting, “Football is a violent game, something we understand going into it, but that being said, it still hurts.”
As the Commanders prepare to face the Giants on Sunday, it won’t include their starting quarterback. While they wait for a speedy recovery for Daniels, they game plan Mariota’s experience to maintain their competitiveness this year.
