Not a bad haul, but arguably not as good as Jaire Alexander, the lethal Raven cornerback who was just traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. Days later, the Ravens traded Alexander to the Eagles. Included in the deal was their own seventh-round pick in 2027 coming back to them, and they got a sixth-round pick in 2026. Coming off an impressive week at training camp, Alexander made his presence felt. He was particularly impactful during his downright cruel matchups against quarterback Lamar Jackson.
At only 28 years old, Alexander’s practice session was a world class masterclass. He demonstrated his ability to be a playmaker in the Eagles’ loaded, star-studded defensive front. He is a two-time All-Pro, receiving the accolade in 2020 and 2022. His last couple of seasons have been derailed by injuries despite these awards. Over 2021-2024, he has played in just 34 of a possible 68 games for the Green Bay Packers. Alas, on June 9, the team waived him after two difficult years dogged by injuries.
In his short time with the Ravens, Alexander appeared in just two of the club’s first eight games this year. He was involved in every snap, a total of 61. Unfortunately, that was not the case, as he failed to make an impact, only tallying zero interceptions and passes defensed. His preparation came under fire following an embarrassing performance in the Ravens’ heart-stopping season opening defeat against the Buffalo Bills. The team completely collapsed in the fourth quarter. This was the real turning point for Alexander. He’d already missed most of training camp with a knee injury.
The Eagles now offer up a new opportunity for Alexander to get back on track and earn himself more playing time. With Philadelphia’s defensive strategy looking to capitalize on his previous successes, Alexander’s move may prove beneficial for both him and the team.
During his time in the league, Alexander has racked up jaw-dropping numbers, with 292 tackles, 12 INTs, and 70 PDs. His reputation as an all-time great cornerback certainly survives this uncharacteristic recent bout of struggles.
