Hye-Jin Choi will take a four-stroke lead into the final round of the Maybank Championship. She’s been having an amazing tournament so far. The South Korean golfer never relinquished her lead since the tournament’s first round. Now, she’s aiming to achieve her first victory on the LPGA Tour.
On Saturday, Choi holed a stunning 5-under 67 to put her solo second at 19-under 197. She started the day with a five-stroke lead. Indeed, she needed all of that magic to clinch her spot with one last eagle on the final 18th hole and six total birdies in her round. This is a big moment in Choi’s career. It’s the first time she has ever held the outright lead after the open three rounds of play!
It’s no surprise at all that Choi’s steady hand has put her in a great position to win. All told, over the course of her career she’s earned 28 top-10 finishes. Her true coming out party was the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open, where she notched an incredible runner-up finish at only 17 years of age as an amateur player. Last week, she played on the South Korean team during the International Crown, showcasing her skills on an international stage.
