Puka Nacua is primed to get back out there this Sunday. The Los Angeles Rams wide receiver takes on the New Orleans Saints. After being defeated by a few weeks with an ankle injury, Nacua declared that he is prepared to strut his stuff. Now he feels “fantastic” and is looking forward to helping his team.
As of entering Week 9, Nacua has already amassed an absurd 54 receptions for 616 yards and two scores. His quality and consistency have made him one of the league’s most valuable players. He was leading the entire NFL in receptions and receiving yards before his injury. Additionally, he has set an amazing achievement in getting the most receptions by a player through the first five games of any season ever. This record is a first of its kind in league history!
Nacua aggravated rib injury he’d suffered in the Week 6 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. He suffered a left ankle sprain during a touchdown catch in the end zone. His hopes for a miraculous recovery were dashed, keeping him out of action for the Rams’ Week 7 contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
Nacua returned to practice with determination. He was a full participant in Thursday’s practice, his first time fully practicing since injuring the knee — a big step in his recovery process. On Wednesday, he got work in but appeared on the injury report as a limited participant.
Rams head coach Sean McVay sounded hopeful about Nacua’s status. It just sounds like he should be good to go for Sunday’s game barring some sort of setback. Of Nacua, McVay is confident.
Reflecting on his return to practice, Nacua shared his excitement, saying, “It’s good to be back out on the football field, moving around, getting a good sweat in, put my feet in the ground.” He added, “It’s been good. We had a nice Thursday practice, so finally get to hit somebody. It feels like it’s been too long for sure, but it felt great to be back out there.”
If Nacua plays against the Bears on Sunday, that will be his 35th regular-season appearance. His bona fides are solid and he’s prepared to roll. He’s looking to make as big of a statement as possible against the Saints as the Rams try to get back to .500 on the season.
