The Houston Texans are set to welcome back wide receiver Nico Collins for their Week 9 matchup against the Denver Broncos. Collins sustained a concussion over the course of the Texans’ Week 7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. As a consequence, he has been blackballed ever since. His return is a huge shot in the arm for the Texans. Quarterback C.J. Stroud, specifically, is looking to continue on his exceptional outing from a week ago.
Collins suffered the concussion less than a minute into the fourth quarter of that game vs. Seattle. He landed square on the back of his head attempting to reel in a back-shoulder throw from QB C.J. At the same time, Seattle’s Josh Jobe suddenly closed on him with firm pressure from behind. Following the play, Collins went into concussion protocol. He had Texans’ phenomenal upset win against the San Francisco 49ers taped, and as such, he completely blew watching the game live. In that game, Stroud threw a season-high 318 yards. He certainly showed that potential without Collins having his best career game matching his completions high at 24, too.
As the Texans head into Sunday’s battle with the Broncos, Collins’ new addition should join Collins’ offensive line and make Houston’s offense one of the best in the league. He’s currently the team leader in receiving yards and second on the team in receptions. His return will provide an experienced target for Stroud. Such support would give him the foundation to grow by leaps and bounds on a weekly basis.
Nico Collins took to social media to share his excitement and relief about returning to play, saying, “Blessed to be off the protocol. He added, “Feeling good, feeling excited about this week’s great matchup,” underlining his eagerness to contribute against Denver.
The Texans have become one of the biggest surprises in a competitive AFC this season. Now that Collins has returned to the lineup, their likelihood of stealing another win has dramatically increased! His ability to stretch the field and make critical catches will be pivotal as they look to capitalize on Stroud’s recent form.
