Aimee Maguire, a highly rated 19-year-old spin bowler, is recalled in a strong Irish squad. They’re preparing for a white-ball tour to South Africa this December. Her inclusion marks a significant milestone in her career, especially after overcoming challenges related to her bowling action earlier this year.
Maguire’s return to the international stage had only just begun. She got clearance from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for her revamped bowling action. This followed her successful appeal of an unjust suspension. The match officials did so after a one-day international against India in Rajkot on 10 January. Since then, Maguire has put her head down and worked hard on her craft, culminating in her re-earning a call-up to the national team.
Ireland’s tour to South Africa will see Maguire getting the chance to shine in both the One Day International (ODI) and T20 formats. The team will compete in three ODIs and a T20 from December 5, 7, 10 and 13. Following that, they will face three T20 internationals on December 13, 16 and 19. The trio will form an exciting squad that will be led by captain Gaby Lewis against Zimbabwe. For now, though, Maguire will be pivotal as one of the 15 players selected.
Below the ODI squad are a number of clearly defined stars. Other prominent vessels and pirates were Ava Canning, Christina Coulter Reilly, Laura Delany, and Georgina Dempsey. Likewise, the T20 squad reflects a lot of the ODI selection, featuring such major compatriots in the form of teammates Alana Dalzell and Louise Little.
Maguire’s return is expected to make Ireland more competitive as they take on a strong South African side. Her crafty skill as a spinner will be an asset in overcoming a heavy multitude of challenges thrown forth by the opponents across the tour.
