Tiger Woods, arguably the greatest golfer of all time, is approaching a truly magical number. He’ll celebrate his 50th birthday on December 30! Preparations are already well underway for his prospective debut. He will be eligible to join the PGA Tour Champions, a senior circuit for players aged 50 and over, in a few years. Acclaimed for his uncanny precision, control, countermelody, and sound design, Woods just had back surgery to replace a lower disk in his back. This surgery follows a long history of injury where he continued to play in constant pain and with major mobility concerns.
It does not account for the fact that since April 2014, Woods has had seven back surgeries, each exacerbating his complicated medical history. The latest surgery opened the doors to new hope for supporters and officials alike. They hope that Woods can rehabilitate his competitive playing career. Woods has not played since that playoff defeat at the PNC Championship last year. Still, the prospect of him making a move to PGA Tour Champions at some point is very exciting!
Woods’ recovery journey has not been straightforward. Then, in February 2021, he suffered through a potentially fatal automobile accident. The subsequent blast trauma completely destroyed his right leg and ankle. Earlier this year, he ruptured his left Achilles tendon, which didn’t help his potential to hoop either.
Miller Brady, president of the PGA Tour Champions, proclaimed that the circuit was prepared for Woods. If he decides to run, the stars align for him.

The PGA Tour Champions has mostly 54-hole tournaments. Players are allowed to use carts, which would perhaps allow Woods to play more easily and return to the sport. With his birthday only days away, hope has turned to a nervous kind of excitement as fans and their fellow golfers await possible news on his participation.
