Trae Young Suffers Right Knee Sprain in Frightening Incident

Atlanta Hawks superstar Trae Young had a bit of a scary scene on his hands last game. He experienced a right knee sprain throughout the contest. The play happened toward the end of the first quarter as Young was standing in the paint. Mouhamed Gueye, pushed by Noah Clowney, fell backward and collided with Young’s leg, causing him to crash to the ground.

Entering the contest, Young averaged a robust 20.8 points and a staggering 9.5 assists per game. Last season he led the NBA in assists with a career-high average of 11.6. The Hawks were going to need his playmaking abilities as they took on their eastern conference foes that night.

After getting knocked down from the collision, Young lay flat on the court for a few seconds, clearly in pain. After one additional possession following the incident, he made the conscious decision to check himself out of the game. He gingerly walked off the field toward the locker room, setting off panic bells around his well-being. You could see Young’s fighting spirit—right before the Oak Hill Catholic third quarter timeout, Young nearly sprinted to the bench. Sadly, like Peters, he was ruled out the remainder of the game.

Saturday, the Hawks announced that Young suffered a right knee sprain. This diagnosis is especially alarming to fans and teammates as it remains to be seen just how long he’ll take to recover. In spite of the loss, he rebounded and made his way back to the bench. His will was to defend his country through the end of the conflict.
