Anthony Davis Exits Game Against Pacers Due to Leg Injury

Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis had to leave Wednesday night’s matchup against the Indiana Pacers with left lower leg soreness. This suspension marks yet another troubling turn for the 32-year-old, whose career has been in freefall. He had been listed as probable on the pregame injury report with bilateral Achilles tendinopathy.

Davis started the match like a woman possessed, becoming a key element in fueling the Mavericks’ attack prior to the injury. After scoring he went down gingerly and signaled to the bench that he needed to exit the game. His exit was in the first quarter, leaving fans fearing for his health.

As the game progressed, Davis crouched down on the sideline for several seconds after the Mavericks called a timeout with 4:12 remaining in the first quarter. Soon after, he headed to the locker room for additional evaluation. Later in the game, the team announced that he would miss the rest of the game, ruling him out at halftime.

This turn of events is especially unfortunate for Davis, who has dealt with a string of injuries since coming to Dallas. He played in only nine regular-season games for the team last season after being acquired in a controversial trade involving Luka Doncic. At the time of the trade, Davis was still in recovery mode from an abdominal injury. Unfortunately, his debut with Dallas was marred by a strained adductor, which sidelined him for six weeks.

Davis came to Dallas with sky-high expectations. Their quick embrace of him as a key player in their strategy to shape the future reflected that belief. A string of injuries have limited his capacity to be a consistent factor on the floor.
