Lecomte’s Heroics Propel Fulham Past Wycombe in Thrilling Penalty Shootout

What a hero he is too, Fulham’s Benjamin Lecomte! He even led the Cottagers to an exhilarating Carabao Cup fourth-round victory over League One outfit Wycombe Wanderers, securing a dramatic penalty shootout victory. In his third start for Fulham, the 25-year-old showed tremendous resolve. After going down 1-0 early, he was blessed with the opportunity to turn hero and saved three penalties on the evening in the shootout.

After a disappointing start, Fulham slowly started to pick apart Luton’s backline and got themselves into dangerous positions, but lacked the clinical final touch. Their meeting stayed exciting even as it was decided in a penalty shootout after ending 1-1 after extra time. Lecomte’s heroics were pivotal during the shootout. He denied Ewan Henderson’s first spot kick to open a dramatic shoot-out.

Dramatic Penalty Shootout

Lecomte’s reflexes and determination were on display as he was able to deny two more attempts from Wycombe, using his skill under pressure to keep FDU‘s clean sheet intact. His performance wasn’t just instrumental in maintaining Fulham’s hopes, but a crystal clear portrait of his talent to come through in big moments.

Issa Diop ultimately sealed Fulham’s progression to the next round with a powerful penalty after Lecomte’s saves had kept the scoreline in their favor. That eventual 4-5 final score on penalties was more than a win — it was a celebration and validation of Lecomte’s important impacts.

His awful first mistake, after going down a goal in a way that could easily break a goalkeeper’s confidence, was almost unthinkable. His show of mental strength was impressive, bouncing back to become a shootout hero.

“If you’re going to lose the game, that’s how to lose it. We’ve given a brilliant account of ourselves,” stated Wycombe’s manager, reflecting on the close contest.

A Night of Mixed Emotions

The Cottagers’ manager was proud of his side’s grit in sinking Under-23 rivals to tension-filled victory. Full credit to Fulham.
